MPP Deb Matthews Launches Her Final Children's Book Drive

Collecting new and gently used books for kids in our community

LONDON – Deb Matthews, MPP for London North Centre, was proud to launch her final book drive at the Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre in London this afternoon. This is the 14th consecutive year that Matthews has collected new and gently used books for children in London and across the province.

Books were collected at the launch and will continue to be collected at Matthews’ constituency office located at 242 Piccadilly St in London until February 16th. The books are then sorted and organized by volunteers who deliver them to shelters and community groups that serve children in need.

The event continues to be a success because of the generosity of Londoners and their kind donations over the years.

QUOTES

“I held the first book drive 14 years ago because the Lieutenant Governor at the time, James Bartleman, encouraged us to get more books in the hands of children in remote communities in northern Ontario. Londoners have generously donated thousands of new and gently used books through the community drop in and children’s book drive over the years. This event is very close to my heart and I hope these books encourage many more children across the province to read.”
